Irving, Texas is a city located in the western part of Dallas County. The city of Irving was officially incorporated in 1914,
but the before that, the area was known Gorbit and then Kit. The town remained small and in the early part of the 20th century,
only had about 350 residents. Significant growth came to Irving during the 1930’s all the way up to the 1960’s as a result of
several manufacturing plants and retail and transportation businesses that came to the city. In 1971, Texas Stadium was completed
and was home to the NFL Football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Growth in Irving is still strong today as the city is now home to
over 200,000 people.
The city of Irving is known as a significant business community because it is home to several large corporations
such as Exxon-Mobile, Kimberly-Clark, Chuck E. Cheese’s, and Omni Hotels. The transportation system in Irving is extensive and
convenient as several major highways like SH 183, SH 114, I-635 LBJ Freeway, and the President George Bush Turnpike pass through the
city. On the western edge of the city lies the DFW International Airport, and Irving is just minutes away from Dallas Love Field,
home to Southwest Airlines.
Las Colinas is a master-planned development located within the city of Irving. This
business district is the location of the Four Season Resort which hosts the annual PGA Tour event, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.
