Coppell, Texas is a small suburb located in the middle of the DFW Metroplex. The history of Coppell traces all the way back
to the 1830’s when the first settlers set up the first farming community known as Grapevine Springs. The population of the area
began to expand as the county of Dallas developed. The town was originally known as Gibbs, after Texas Senator Barnett Gibbs. The railroad industry played a significant role in the growth of the area and the town was renamed Coppell in 1890, after a railroad
engineer. The major period of growth happened in the mid 1970’s as the completion of DFW International Airport brought more
residents and businesses to Coppell. Today, the city of Coppell is home to just under 40,000 people.
The lure of Coppell
lies in its location relative to other parts of Dallas County. Interstate Highway 635 and Highway 121 provide easy access to
downtown Dallas, DFW International Airport, and Dallas Love Field. Because of this, the residents of Coppell enjoy a vast array
of employment opportunities as well as a thriving area for small businesses. The city council of Coppell is known for its pro-business
attitude and its dedication to attracting corporations looking to relocate. Recreation is not far away either because Coppell
is close to both of the area’s major lakes, Grapevine Lake and Lake Lewisville. The city is mainly an upper middle-class area
because the median family income is higher than the average found in other suburbs of Dallas. Although most of Coppell is developed,
the market for pre-owned homes in the area remains relatively strong.
