Grapevine, Texas is home to approximately 50,000 people and is named for the Mustang Grapes that grow in the area.  The first people came to Grapevine in the mid 1800’s and it was known as the oldest settlement in Tarrant County.  This part of the Dallas Metroplex really didn’t see much growth until the mid 1970’s, when the DFW International Airport was built.  The airport resides mainly in the city of Grapevine and has contributed to the economic development in all surrounding cities and towns. 

The centerpiece of Grapevine is Grapevine Lake, which was built by the Army Corps of Engineers around 1950.  The lake offers an escape for those looking for a peaceful day of outdoor activities.  There are several trails surrounding the lake that are ideal for hiking or mountain biking.  The lake itself is popular with fisherman and it’s not uncommon to see sailboats of windsurfers on the water.  Adjacent to Grapevine Lake are several challenging golf courses and the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. The Gaylord Texan was built in 2004 and is known for having the most meeting space of any hotel in the state of Texas.  The resort also has 1,500 guest rooms, several restaurants, a large atrium, and an exciting nightlife. 

For those who like to shop, there is the Grapevine Mills Mall, which is one of the largest malls in North Texas.  The mall is home to over 200 stores and specialty retailers, a large AMC Movie Theater, and a Bass Pro Shops.
